Lennox, A. & Anderson, E. (2007) The Leicester model of interprofessional education: A practical guide for implementation in health and social care. Special report 9. Newcastle: HEA: Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine.

Welcome to this guide which invites you to adopt a carefully developed, robustly tested and evaluated interprofessional learning model for health and social care students. The guide provides information on the Leicester Model of Interprofessional Education (the Model) and details the practical processes required to replicate the experience. Emphasis is given throughout on the importance of creating a learning environment in which quality interprofessional education can occur. The Model places students at the centre of current health and social care delivery, learning directly from patients and their service providers, to develop the skills to provide effective, multi-agency care. Learning is underpinned by theoretical perspectives and healthcare policy. Learning is reflective, experiential and problem solving, with pre- or post-qualified students working together in interprofessional or uniprofessional cohorts of up to 1000, in groups of 3-5 students per patient.
